Pray for my Sanity....

We had our first 4-H K-9 Kadets meeting tonight. Courtney and Sarah are Training Sam and Molly for the 4-H Dog show this year. I knew we were getting in deep, but I had no idea how deep we were getting. There are forms and certain shots the vet has to do to the dogs. Hopefully, Molly will be the only one that needs some shots. We have to get a Parasite exam as well as the heart worm, flea and tick tests. Not worried about these tests. We also have to get special collars, leads and water bowls. After we get the 2 new leads we will have a total of 5 leads. Every one we have at home isn't the correct one. Geesh!
Then we have to meet every Tuesday at 6pm for 1 hour. We can't feed the dogs before we go so they are more responsive to the training with treats. Good for Sam, but Molly can't wait till 7pm to get fed. I'm going to have to get Mom to come over in the morning to give her a snack. The categories they will be showing this year are: Obedience, Showmanship, and Agility. Courtney will have a very easy time with the obedience part with Sam. He already knows his stuff there, but Molly?!?!? And many other dogs? I'm already freaking out. We have our first Training Class next Tuesday.
Mark your calenders: Starke County Fair is July 12th to the 19th. The Dog show is on the 12th ALL DAY. If we compete in the County Fair, we get to go to the State Fair. Very Cool! I can't wait to get Sam doing the Agility. That will me the best part. We love to watch the dogs do the Agility on the Ultimate Dog Challenge.

Oooo... a dog show sounds like fun! As of now John's schedule shows he'll be coming off his last midnight the night before that day so maybe we could come. His schedule could change once vacations are picked if someone picks that date, but it looks promising for now. It would be great to see you all. I know Courtney and Sarah don't remember me and I've never even met Ashley. I'll keep my fingers crossed... remind me when it gets closer and we can make plans.

Hey Jessica.....we can car pool....the 19th is my weekend off, and if Jennifer lets us know what dates for sure in advance, Jay & I can, for sure, request off.

Yep, at Landheim's AKC Obedience classes I needed special leashes, too....Only thing Willie didn't have was the kennel cough vaccine. The one up the nose. They were very strict about that.....We also were told not to feed....makes them want that treat, and to please, even more so....I would not feed the pup like they said, it won't hurt him...also, go to Pet Smart and get the treat bag....your pant pockets don't do it...also, I use what is called, Charlie Bear treats found at PetSmart....They are not messy and are low in calories.....you will be rewarding lots and for home I used those....BUT in class, I used string cheese....it is better that slimy hot dogs. just cut it in real, real small pieces, even though they are bigger than Willie....your not trying to feed them....LOL...works great, and they love it.....a friend in my gardening forum who trains told me about string cheese....

Tell the kids good luck, and if they need help or have a question, just call...never know. We saw how other dogs/owners got corrected, too.....One lady was really a cry baby and had a big dog she could not control....it wasn't the dog, it was HER that they tried to teach....Needless to say, she did not finish the class....:-(

Hugs....Mom

Well NOW I make a motion we "Caravan" it instead of car pool!!!
I am marking it on my calendar too.
Wouldn't it be a hoot for me to hear some names I MAY remember from my childhood... hmmmm

I hope the girls keep enjoying 4-H and all the stuff... and tell them to just "TRY" and "DO YOUR BEST" and that is good!
Love Gramma Gulley
P.S. No answer on my question about Christmas gifts yet Jennifer...
P.P.S. Grandpa is home from his surgery doing pretty good. Later..
